The Mission of the Casa de los Niņos Thrift Stores
Our mission is to support programs at Casa de los Niņos through the efficient processing of donations and by maximizing net sales.
The Story of Casa de los Niņos Thrift Stores
The Casa de los Niņos Thrift Stores exist because of the generosity of the Tucson community which donates gently used merchandise to our stores. All money that is generated stays here in Tucson and supports the programs that benefit the children and families who are being helped by Casa de los Niņos.
A little Thrift Store history...
By Viva Neale, volunteer
"About a year after Sister Kathleen started the nursery (1973) , she was needing funds to pay for the gas and lights and extra expenses....we had 3 yard sales but were rained out each time. So I got a group of ladies together and formed an auxiliary.
One of the Board members let us use his auto shop on Fort Lowell for about 9 months until he had to sell it. Then we moved to a small place on Prince and 1st Avenue (only $175 a month). It was just one large room. We soon needed more space and the landlady put on a large addition for us.
We again ran out of space so the Board bought us a place on Campbell . It had been a furniture store."
